Light Rail Series Bollards.

Our specially designed Light Rail Model bollard was initially designed for the Tri-Met Light Rail System in Portland, Oregon. Since light rail systems use electricity to operate, we needed to design a bollard and chain combination that would discourage pedestrians from walking across the tracks but that would also not conduct electricity if one of the overhead light rail wires happened to fall on the bollard/chain. Our solution was a bollard made up of plastic construction connected by heavy duty plastic chain and master links. This system, unlike a conventional steel bollard and chain system, virtually ensures that the bollards and chain will not act as conductors of electricity if one of the electrical lines ever happens to fall and make contact with them.

Height
The overall height of the bollard shall be 52” with 6” below grade and 46” above grade (NOTE: Overall height can be adjusted).

Material
INNER CORE
4” O.D. recycled plastic.

INNER SLEEVE
4” I.D. x 11 gauge extruded aluminum tubing (NOTE: Aluminum tubing is 32” in overall length and extends 27” above grade and 5” below grade) .

OUTER SLEEVE
4-3/4” O.D., U.V. stabililized rotationally molded polyethylene

CHAIN
4” black plastic links with a 700 pound tensile strength.

MASTERLINKS
4” black plastic masterlinks.

EYEBOLTS
1/2” diameter steel with insulating thermoplastic powder coat finish.

Installation
STANDARD EMBEDDED MOUNT
Bollards shall be embedded 6” below grade. Bollards shall have a cross anchor for support. This cross anchor shall be positioned 1” from the bottom of the bollard and shall extend approximately ¾” on either side of the bollard.
