Commercial patio furniture is known for its strength, versatility and durability. The introduction of newer high strength moldable materials has made it possible to make outdoor furniture that's nearly indestructible but yet comfortable. Before metals, wood was used to make site furniture. These wooden park benches and tables had to be replaced almost every year. Families where sick of sitting at picnic tables that where full of splinters. Shortly after the introduction of the new metals, parks and recreation sites were stripped off their wooden furniture. Outdoor furniture manufacturers started using metals instead of tree barks.
Local governments replaced the obsolete wooden furniture with newer longer lasting metal outdoor furniture. Wooden benches where replaced with a steel bench that could hold more weight. Metal picnic tables could withstand natural elements that the wooden ones couldn't. Vandalism in parks also died down, since it is close to impossible to break or damage metal. The wooden benches and tables that used to be seen throughout parks started to die out. Everywhere metal was replacing wood: train stations, buss stops, and even schools. By using metal, state governments saved over millions of dollars in tax payers' money. This made it possible for the government to spend the money on other city projects and reconstruction.
The use of metal furnishing soon moved from the parks to peoples homes. People where sick of having to replace their outdoor patio furniture. Gardeners where complaining that their wooden garden benches couldn't withstand the constant abuse of the moisture, and climate changes. In a short period of time, the beautiful bench that used to be the centerpiece of the garden soon would become an eyesore. The complaints where heard and acted on. Companies soon started producing a metal garden bench to answer the growing demands. The demand for durable furnishing for homes was as high as that of commercial outdoor furniture and made it known that wood was no longer wanted.
Throughout time the metals used to manufacture outdoor furniture were starting to become stronger and stronger. By the time cast aluminum outdoor furniture was introduced wood was long gone. Newer, stronger, more durable, easy to clean, and cheaper metal outdoor furniture was taking over.
